Abstract
Introduction: The teaching of general human embryology represents an essential component
of the curriculum in medical sciences. Ensuring this course is no longer possible with
traditional methods, it requires animated three-dimensional representations associated with
other methods. The main objective of this work is to analyze the strengthening of cognitive,
procedural and collaborative capacities of learners in a situation of learning human
embryology with the interactive 3D tool. Material and methods: This is a prospective mono centric study which comprises two phases from 2017 to 2019. The first concerned the design
of 3D models, the second was carried out according to the stages of the technopedagogical
model of ADDIE. The educational model developed was implemented during tutorial
sessions in the 1st year of dentistry following the diagram of the inverted class with face-to face and distance-learning phase. A satisfaction questionnaire, as well as formative and
summative evaluations were used to collect the data. Results: A total of 63 learners
participated in the study. The Facebook insight tool has raised membership and increased
their activity within the group. The statistical tests used showed a significant difference in
the results of formative assessments. The educational intervention carried out had a strong
effect on learning according to Hattie's effect size calculation. The results of the questionnaire
revealed a fairly high level of satisfaction of the learners. Discussion: Reading and analyzing
the various quantitative and qualitative results made it possible to bring out the concept of
active learning incorporating technology. 3D video adapted to active teaching has played a
key role in the acquisition of knowledge and the development of new skills. Conclusion: The
present study has shown that the integration of an adequate learning tool coupled with an
active teaching method in the teaching of general embryology has enabled the learner to
develop his cognitive, procedural and transversal skills.
